Hands-on energy work

Chi Nei Tsang Taoist massage

Chi Nei Tsang is a therapeutic massage technique with roots in ancient Taoist practices. First introduced to the West by acclaimed teacher Mantak Chia, this healing modality was developed centuries ago by monks at the White Cloud Monastery in China. Chi Nei Tsang takes a holistic approach to touch therapy and energy work on the abdomen.

Chi Nei Tsang addresses the body, mind, emotions, and spirit as interconnected parts of our whole being. This abdominal massage technique aims to release pent-up emotional energy that can manifest as physical sickness or discomfort. By clearing these energetic blockages, Chi Nei Tsang promotes overall wellness on multiple levels.

Chi Nei Tsang literally means “working the energy of the internal organs” or “internal organs chi transformation.”

The practice uses all the principles of Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan known as Chi Kung (Qigong).  We can say therefore that Chi Nei Tsang is a form of “applied Chi Kung” while at the same time, hands-on bodywork and energy healing.

Chi Nei Tsang sees emotional and physical health as connected. Symptoms carry emotional meaning stored energetically in the body, often in areas like joints and muscles. These emotional charges require release for health. The digestion system especially reflects one's emotional processing level. Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage techniques help discharge stagnant energetic and emotional blockages for overall wellbeing.
The practice works mainly on the abdomen with deep yet soft and gentle touches, to train internal organs to work more efficiently.

Energy blockages arising from organ obstructions and congestion in the abdomen can result in knots and tangles at the center of the body's vital functions. This impedes the flow of Chi, the life-force bioelectromagnetic field that holds our energy-intelligence.

Emotions like fear, anger, anxiety, depression and worry relate to different organs. When an organ's Chi is imbalanced, the organ can become intoxicated.

Chi Nei Tsang uses intention and touch to influence the receiver's Chi. This clears toxins, negative emotions, and excessive heat or deficiencies causing organ dysfunction.

how it works

A Chi Nei Tsang treatment begins with an assessment discussing your health history and any issues you wish to address. You will be asked for any information relevant to a holistic approach, considering your physical and emotional state as one.

Reasons to avoid Chi Nei Tsang may include pregnancy, an intrauterine device (IUD), pacemaker, certain cancers or skin infections.

Plan to wear comfortable clothing and eat/drink normally before your appointment. Do not fast, but allow a couple hours after your last meal.

You will lay comfortably on your back, supported with pillows and bolsters. Your ribcage to pelvis area is exposed by opening clothing. Feel free to adjust room temperature or request a blanket/more pillows.

The treatment begins with gentle, precise abdominal touches performing an energy scan, using mindful breathing into worked areas. You may experience deep relaxation and re-connection with yourself physically and emotionally.

Your experience of change or healing may occur during or after treatment, depending on your needs.

The approximately one hour treatment may lead to falling asleep, which is therapeutic

Chi Nei Tsang does not attempt to treat symptoms or cure an illness; rather it is a system designed to precipitate change by bringing awareness to the internal organs of the body, thus inducing the body to heal.

In that way, Chi Nei Tsang addresses every condition of a person, whether manifested physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

Chi Nei Tsang can be of particular benefit to some of the more intractable contemporary problems, such as sleep disorders, anxiety, insomnia, stress, depression, digestive and bowel problems involving the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, discomfort from Crohn’s disease, menstrual cramps, irritable bowel syndrome, endometriosis, and auto-immune disorders.
Additionally, Chi Nei Tsang can help to speed healing from injury or trauma, including obstetrical and surgical trauma.
