Swedish Massage
The Swedish massage, also known as classic massage, is perhaps the best-known massage treatment in the world.
A proper Swedish massage is slow-moving, rhythmic, and address only the superficial tissue, not go into deeper muscle work. It is great for someone with high stress levels or constant responsibility that makes it difficult to take the mental pause that is so necessary and restorative for our minds, bodies, and souls.
Swedish massage differs from other types of massage, such as deep tissue massage or sports massage, because the main goal is to achieve a full-body tension release, that is an almost sedative effect through physical relaxation.
A Swedish massage is a good introductory practice for those that aren’t familiar with massage technique. In that sense, it is an excellent way of finding out where your particular areas of tension are and where you hold stress or have critical issues.
You could benefit from a Swedish massage if you are looking for an immediate pain relief, although long-term effects on pain and anxiety may possibly be achieved with regular sessions.
Massage can be traced back over 5,000 years to ancient India, with Swedish massages being created by the Dutch doctor Johann Georg Mezger in the 1860’s. Using the French “friction methods” on patients, he codified for the first time the five techniques of Swedish Massage:
Effleurage-Long, gliding strokes
Petrissage-Kneading of the muscles
Friction-Firm, circular rubbing motions
Tapotement-Tapping or percussive movements
Vibration-Shaking particular muscles

how it works
Pre-session Consultation: 30 minutes Zoom to know all of the client's medical conditions, medications, allergies, and injuries, past and present, to individualize a session for pressure and focus.
Session: 1 hour massage, and up to 15 minutes resting.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes for the full-body, although can be stretched longer to allow more time spent on hands, feet, or a target area if needed and agreed beforehand. Variations depend on schedule, finances, and how long it takes you to fully relax.
The client lays unclothed (with bottom underwear) on a massage table, draped between two sheets.
The standard order begins with the legs and feet move to the back. The client turns over halfway through the session, and starts again from the abdomen followed by the shoulders, arms, and hands, ending with the neck, head, and face.
The glides are directed from the extremities toward the heart and lymph nodes. The massage pace and pressure may vary depending on the the client's needs and according to his response along the practice.
The session begins with light, broad compression to the whole body to activate sensory receptors and get the blood and lymph fluid moving.
